Kingdom Hearts fans might not be so kind towards Matt Hawkins. He mentions that he us often negative when it comes to the gaming industry, describing his inspiration as such; "I'm a big fan of wrestling managers who like pissing off the audience."

Perhaps this is what he had in mind when he listed Kingdom Hearts II as one of the worst games to hit the gaming market. While many who played the original might put VII at the top of their favourites, this man places it as one of the worst, placing it as number one on his list of the best of the worst. Whether or not you agree with his comments, the article is definitely worth the read through.

Unfortunately, unlike his mark for the Final Fantasy VII, who shared the number one spot as reported on the Final Fantasy portal, there was no description as to why he decided to give such a poor score to the game.

Other epic games which were listed? The likes of Final Fantasvy VII, much of the GTA series and even Zelda and World of Warcraft made it onto the list, many of which have neoportals already live on this site, viewable on the bar to the left and to the bottom.

So, what was the criteria which a lot of these games made it on to, and why did he chose them? Matt did some research and found that the same games were always on the worst list. Often, he defends these games, saying that they were made in a time when things were simpler and not so much was known, an excuse which can't be used with today's modern games. For example, he found many of these games to be lack lustre in content, or were bad influences. Final Fantasy, for example, redefined RPGs, in his opinions, as games which now require over 80 hours to play. He also declares Shenmue, which is on the list, as boring.

Square has stated that Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ will be released in Japan this summer and rumor has it that it may hit the U.S. this fall! Along with the game will be released "Kingdom Hearts: Re: Chain of Memories" for the PS2. Both are remade versions of themselves with deeper stories, more challenging bosses, and better graphics. The Chain of Memories version will contain all it had before and more, but it will be remade in 3-D with better cutscenes, reaction commands, and cooler fights! So, if you've finished Kingdom Hearts II and you're getting bored with waiting for the next one, Square's got this for you to look forward to.

At December 16, in the Jump Festa in Japan, Square Enix hinted that there will be new KH projects in the works. A few days later Nomura spoke with Famitsu, confirming that the series will definitely have some significant advancements in 2007. Whether or not this means we'll have a KH3 soon or spinoffs is unknown. We'll find out around mid 2007, according to Square Enix.

Reviews have begun to pop up accross the internet for Kingdom Hearts II. Below is some content from a number of them, relating to gameplay, graphics and the overall functionality of the game itself.

Happy reading!

From totalgaming:

The long wait for this title is a bit of a let down. The storyline is faultless, the graphics are beautiful and the presentation is perfect, but unfortunately the battle scenes are too easy. There's no increase in strength or power of enemies the further you progress, so there's no incentive to use anything other than the X button to hack and slash your way through.

There's some new worlds to explore in Kingdom Hearts II. The Timeless River level from Steamboat Willie takes you back into a 1930's black and white scene with characters drawn to mimic the original Disney sketches. The Gummi ship returns to transport you between worlds and offers gamers as welcome relief in the form of a shoot 'em up where you kill off enemy targets and collect objects to add to your ship and increase your firepower.

Kingdom Hearts fans will have already ignored my comments and have purchased this title anyway, but new players are advised to maybe rent it out before committing to buy.

From The Age:

Square has again masterfully integrated both its new creations and the popular Final Fantasy characters into Disney's magical kingdom without the jarring culture clash you might expect from such a mix of East and West. But many players will be baffled by the convoluted story.

After a ponderous four-hour prologue, players again control Sora, voiced by Haley Joel Osment, an excellent choice as the youthful hero dragged into events beyond his control.

Sora wields a key used like a sword in combat that also allows access to different realms.

He is a nimble hero and rapid button presses unleash a variety of combination moves during combat. Donald and Goofy again fight by Sora's side and prove helpful partners.

Battles against the shadowy opponents are frantic and exciting, with swarms of relentless enemies. But the difficulty is now better tuned to accommodate youngsters and an improved camera minimises frustration. The game can be played as a mindless "hack 'n' slash", yet new context-sensitive attacks and the chance to wield two keyblades make fighting more varied.

From PALGN:

All the gameplay standards are still present, yet every one of them improved. The combat is third person, and moves at a blisteringly fast pace, with all characters tearing around the screen using magic and swordplay to decimate enemies. The camera issues plaguing the first game have pretty much vanished, and one can zoom in and out to view the action at any angle. One notable fight halfway through the game is the ultimate culmination of fluidity and finesse in the battle system - Sora versus one thousand Heartless, non-stop. It is these scenes that give KHII that extra feeling of adventure, and the sheer fun gives the entire experience far more weight than anything achieved the first time around.

Sep 30 2006 - KH2 Final Mix +!
In TGS, Square-Enix revealed Kiingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix+. Like the Final Mix version of Kthe first Kingdom Hearts, it's going to contain new features, such as a harder difficulty mode, new reaction commands, new bosses, more Org XII fights(!), new enemies, reworked maps, etc. Though this Final Mix version of KH2 beats the the first one by a longshot: It offers a remake of CoM, in 3D! It's called "re:Chain of Memories".

Final Mix is going to come out in Japan in Spring 2007, and there doesn't seem to be any plans to release this game in the US and UK, but let's hope they decide to.

Everyone thought KH2 was going to be rated E+10, but a few days ago on the ESRB website, it turns out KH2 won't be rated E+10, but rated T for "Fantasy Violence, Use of Alcohol". It looks like KH2 won't be as "childish" as KH was, which is a good thing, because now there shouldn't be as many people bashing the game for being "a baby game".

The reviewer, from Gpara, has mainly said he/she enjoyed playing KH2 a whole lot. The game scenes and the collaboration work, such as working with the Disney characters, are abound with radiating responses(or reactions).Overall, the game is satisfying and highly recommended. At the end of the review, the reviewer is expecting a sequel because of KH2's high quality work, even though the story has been concluded. The reviewer wants Pixar characters for KH3 and seems to be asking for them in a manner as if Nomura was to see that review. We shall see. After all,Pixar and Disney are back together now?

In the past two days, from 21st to 22nd, the World Hobby Fair tour temporarily made its home in Tokyo. The game booths and demos should be the same from the last event, thus, KHII is still there. The youngsters seem to be having lots of fun. There's even some massive game displays there. You can meet Mario, Sonic, and Shadow in person. Also, you can play a Poke'mon version of skeeball for 500 yen, in which you win a Poke'mon stuff animal if successful in throwing the balls in right. There's even a UFO catcher that's getting a lot of attention because you can win from it.....a Tamagotchi! One of my favorite events there would be the Taiko Drum game area. That display is quite impressive. Sadly, there is no picture in the S-E section that shows KH2 but it's fair since it was taken in the first Hobby Fair stop.

IGN has recently updated it's page with comments of what all the top dogs from the gaming industry think about the next generation of gaming. The PS3. Normura's comment was this:

Tetsuya Nomura -- Square Enix Designer
Nomura gives himself 100 out of 100. Apparently he gave himself 50 in 2004 because he was unable to release Advent Children. In addition to the 50 for that product, this finally arrived earlier this year. This year's score also gets 50 from Kingdom Hearts II, which was released to Japan on December 22. For 2006, Nomura states that his next directorial role is coming into view. The Kingdom Hearts II team, having just finished work on KHII, has yet to start on the next generation of systems. The team that made the PS3 Final Fantasy VII demo, however, has been working on next-generation stuff for the past year, and has shared with Nomura the belief that working on next-generation machines is tough. Nomura points to PSP's Crisis Core as something that will get his attention in 2006, and also expresses interest in more casual portable games. The game that left the greatest impression Nomura was Tekken 5, as he played it most; he actually plays all Tekken games when they come out. When Kingdom Hearts II was finished, he got sucked into the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 and cleared it late at night. The event or happening that left the greatest impression with him was the build up to the release of Advent Children.

Season 2. Episode 2. Guess who's in it? Another (high enthusiastic) impression on KH2.This time,it's an EGM staff member who is being interviewed. You can find the KH2 part at around 19:50 into the video.
I think that there has to be a time though when we can already say, we have enough impressions. I'm currently watching this and I'll have to say, "Wow. Tron = awesome. Sora wiping his mouth = awesome. I got to stop spoiling myself = awesome". Minor *spoiler warning* for this footage because they actually put in some of the spectacular scenes, music, and sound from the game. You also get to hear some of the Japanese VA speak. (Thankfully, not Goofy's Japanese VA or I will cringe.) Outcome of the video: Obviously nothing in the "new" department, although, I like the basketball analogy. The EGM member says some things a little fast (-his excitement?) so it can be easy to miss what he says the first time but overall, I feel that it is a tad better than Gamespot's "On the Spot". He also says that KH2 is aimed to be release around March.

IGN have added a new atricle showcasing all the most anticipated games for 2006. KHII made it on the list. IGN says:

The original Kingdom Hearts is one of the most popular PlayStation 2 RPGs of all time and the forthcoming sequel looks to improve on the original in every way. A better camera highlights a cool new battle system twist where you can merge teammates to form more powerful hybrid characters as well, and several new areas from movies like The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean have been included too. What has us most excited, though? That would be the super-promising light bike race (and everything that goes with it) from the Tron world. Let's get it on!
