Abilities

Abilities are special skills that Sora and party members learn throughout the game. As you progress, you will encounter new foes that are more elusive, powerful, and tactful in battle. The clashes with them will be greatly reduced if you equip these abilities. Some of them automatically improve your performance in battle or give you a greater variety of items, while others allow situational techniques that will cost you Magic Points (MP). Abilities are equipped to each player in the Abilities section of the pause menu. In order to equip them, you must have enough Ability Points (AP). The AP system works with a total amount of AP. As the characters gain levels, they will also gain AP and learn new abilities. Each ability that you equip will subtract a certain amount of AP (relative to the ability) from the character's total AP. If there is not enough AP to equip an ability, then you must first gain more total AP to equip it.

There are others ways to increase AP and learn abilities without leveling up. AP can be increase by using an AP Up. An AP Up is an item that will permanently increase the selected character's total AP by one point. These items can be found in treasure chests throughout the game, or they can be synthesized in the Item Workshop of Traverse Town. Abilities are also learned when special opponents or bosses are defeated. There are four abilities that are known as Shared Abilities. Shared Abilities are, when equipped, automatically equip to Sora, Donald, and Goofy. They expend no AP and are learned by completing various stages in the game. Below are tables of information. [1]

MP Rage 40 2 Recover MP whenever you're hit in battle. Heavier damage restores more MP. Equip more to boost effect.
Treasure Magnet 45 2 Attract nearby HP/MP balls, Munny, and items more often. Equip to entire party to boost effect.
Jackpot 50 2 Receive more Munny and HP/MP balls in battle. Equip to entire party to boost effect.
Lucky Strike 55 3 Raises luck so that enemies drop rare items more often. Equip to entire party to boost effect.
Cheer Learned when Maleficent is defeated. 1 Increases the summons and MP gauge, giving them more time and attacks per battle. Equip to entire party to boost effect.

Treasure Magnet 18 2 Attract nearby HP/MP balls, Munny, and items more often. Equip to entire party to boost effect.
Tornado 21 2 Whirl after an enemy, using shield to attack. [Special attack. Cost: 1 MP.]
Lucky Strike 27 3 Raises luck so that enemies drop rare items more often. Equip to entire party to boost effect.
MP Gift 30 3 Give up MP to give 3 MP to a friend. [Support skill. Cost: 1 MP]

Sora will eventually learn all of the same abilities, but the time at which he learns them can vary. These variations are based on which weapon Sora chooses at the very beginning of the game, the Dream Sword, the Dream Shield, or the Dream Rod.
