Aqua is the one of the three playable characters in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. She is an exceptional magic caster and very nimble. She is tall, slender, and has blue hair. Selfless with a strong sense of duty, she often worries about her friends and will go to great lengths to always do the right thing. Her Keyblade's name is Rain Fall.
 Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
Aqua is training under Master Eraqus along with Terra and Ventus for the Mark of Mastery examination which would make her a full Keyblade Master. At the beginning of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep she achieves this, though the privileges and perks of this title are not evident at first.
Aqua embarks on the journey to find Master Xehanort and to keep an eye on Terra during the journey. As play styles go, Aqua is the trickiest to master, focusing largely on magic. She is also fairly acrobatic, making her something of an "acrobatic mage". During her journey she meets a young Kairi in Radiant Garden. Sensing that she has a heart of pure light, she enchants her necklace to ensure that if she is ever in trouble that someone will always come for her. This is her only direct confrontation with Kairi, though after the meeting she receives the same keyblade that Kairi herself wielded 11 years later.
Between Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts II
Having survived the final encounter with Vanitas, Aqua takes Ventus' body back to the Land of Departure; their home. There, she takes the Keyblade of Master Eraqus and locks the keyhole to the world, transforming it into Castle Oblivion. She then faces Master Xehanort in Terra's body and sacrifices herself to the darkness to protect Terra's heart from the same fate. Aqua has resided in the realm of darkness ever since. In the secret post-credit movie, she is seen talking to Ansem the Wise after the events of Kingdom Hearts II.
